In this sermon, our pastor, Rev. Ian Forest-Jones, reminds us it is too easy for a focus on spiritual gifts to become a source of conceit, thus drawing the believer into living in the flesh. Living by the Holy Spirit leads to a truly transformed life, yet requires constant vigilance.
The apostle Paul was absolutely convinced of the superiority of love over extraordinary spiritual gifts and maturity, over eloquence and wisdom, even over extravagant deeds of generosity and self-sacrifice. Without love, all gifts and powers and actions we might claim for ourselves are worthless. Whom and how do we love so we are known for love?
The spiritual gifts include and are based on love; we can change our mind by loving.
